Namwon Municipal Orchestra for Korean Traditional Music

Namwon Municipal Orchestra for Korean Traditional Music serves as a central institution in the transmission of traditional music in Namwon, providing a performance space for renowned singers and a venue for traditional music education.
Originating from the Gyo-bang entertainment quarters of the Joseon Dynasty in Namwon, the ensemble was formalized in 1921 at Gwanghanru, where it took on the responsibility of passing down traditional music through teaching dance and music.
After liberation in 1945, it was renamed from the Namwon Traditional Music Club to the Namwon Traditional Music Institute in the 1950s, and was promoted to the Namwon City Traditional Music Institute on March 1, 1983. It was renamed the Namwon City Traditional Music Training Institute on February 5, 1998.
On September 25, 2001, the office was moved inside the Chunhyang Cultural Arts Center, and since hiring four instructors on April 8, 2002, it has been offering traditional music lessons to citizens and students. The office moved to its current location, the Sanctuary of Traditional Music, which opened on October 31, 2007.
It is also an active and progressive ensemble that promotes the excellence of Namwon's traditional music and the attractiveness of Namwon as a tourism destination through regular performances for residents and tourists during the summer.
